2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift Vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno: Go Small Or Premium?

The newly launched 2024 new-gen Maruti Swift has been given a complete overhaul, featuring a fresh design, a revamped cabin, and even a new three-cylinder engine. On the other hand, we have the Baleno which is larger and gets a proven four-cylinder engine. Let’s find out how the two hatchbacks stack up against each other:

As seen in the table, both – the manual and automatic – variants of the Baleno are Rs 38,000 more expensive than the Swift.

Design 

The Maruti Swift and Baleno, though being similarly priced are two very different cars in terms of design and styling. The Swift has a sportier design, while the Baleno looks more premium. Both the hatchbacks are compact in size, but it's the Baleno which is the larger vehicle here.

Cabin And Features 

Both the hatchbacks get similar dashboard layout and design. However, the Baleno gets a black/blue scheme while the Swift gets a black hue with silver accents for contrast. Being from a segment above, the Baleno comes with a couple of extra features over the Swift, making it feel a bit more premium.

From the above list, it’s clear that the Baleno packs in more features, such as a heads-up display and a 360-degree camera, over the Swift. 

Powertrain 

As seen in the table above, the Swift comes with a new three-cylinder petrol engine which is slightly less powerful compared to the Baleno’s four-cylinder unit. Transmission options offered on both the hatchbacks are the same. 

A point to note is that the Baleno is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit. But where the Swift triumphs the Baleno is in terms of fuel efficiency and that too by a fair margin. 

Verdict 

Keeping in mind that both the Baleno and Swift are similarly priced, it would make more sense to pay the premium and pick the Baleno as it offers more space and features, while having a larger engine. Another point to note is that the Baleno is sold through the premium Nexa outlets that have a much nicer sales experience, while the Swift is sold by the Maruti Suzuki Arena.
