The fifth-generation Mini Cooper hatchback range, initially introduced with the all-electric Cooper SE in 2023, now includes two petrol-powered versions: the Cooper S and the Cooper C. Both variants feature turbocharged petrol engines, albeit with different capacities. Let's delve into these new offerings and all their details, including design, engine options, features, and expected launch dates.
The Cooper S is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the Cooper C is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Below are the engine specifications for the two variants.

Both the Cooper S and Cooper C feature the same minimalist and clean design as seen on the all-electric Cooper SE. The front is adorned with large circular LED headlights with signature DRLs. While these headlamps also get lines above and below the main headlight, unlike the ones on the pure-electric version, they’re not part of the DRLs here. Also, distinguishing the petrol-powered models from the EV is the grille area and the black insert that outlines the grille and air dam in place of the illuminated strip and chunky closed-off section.

The profile maintains the same floating roofline and showcases a new multi-spoke alloy wheel design. But you can also distinguish it from the EV by the door handles, which do not sit flush with the body panel here. The rear-end showcases the updated design seen with the Cooper SE, featuring triangular LED taillights with the Union Jack insignia. Here, too, the petrol version is differentiated by the tweaked light signature.
Inside, the minimalist design theme continues, with the highlight being the round central infotainment unit with a thin bezel that houses all functions, including climate controls. You do get physical knobs for other functions such as volume control. The interior is further complemented by the dashboard, which features ambient lighting with multiple colour finishes depending on the selected drive mode. Even the drive selector is on the single control panel on the dash with and there is no instrument cluster to speak of. Details like fuel level and odometer are there on the top of the infotainment screen.
In terms of features the latest Cooper additions come equipped with a 9.5-inch OLED touchscreen infotainment system, heads-up display, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, automatic climate control and powered seats. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and brake assist.
With the all-electric Mini Cooper SE expected to arrive in India sometime in the second half of 2024, the launches of the petrol-powered Cooper S and Cooper C are expected to follow. In terms of pricing, they are expected to exceed the Rs 50 lakh mark.
