Maruti Suzuki Swift has always been a crowd favourite ever since it marked its entry in the Indian market. In its newly launched fourth-gen avatar, it has been made even more desirable with fresh looks and added features. It has been an enthusiast’s choice with its peppy 1.2-litre petrol engine, and nimble and agile handling.
The fourth-gen Swift makes way for the new 3-cylinder Z series engine, instead of the 4-cylinder K Series engine which powered it before. In this article, we bring you a comparison between the real-world performance figures of the new-gen Swift and the outgoing model.
Model |
Third-gen Swift |
2024 Swift |
Engine |
1.2-litre 4-Cylinder K Series |
1.2-litre 3-Cylinder Z Series |
Power |
90 PS |
82 PS |
Torque |
113 Nm |
112 Nm |
Claimed Fuel Efficiency |
22.38 kmpl (MT) / 22.56 kmpl (AMT) / 30.9 km/kg (CNG) |
24.8 kmpl (MT) / 25.75 kmpl (AMT) |
Notably, the new Swift with the Z Series 3-cylinder engine produces 8 PS less power than the outgoing model, and 1 Nm less of torque. With a decrease in power, the fuel efficiency notices a hike in the 2024 Swift. Furthermore, there is no CNG option available in the new 2024 Swift yet. We have tested the manual variants of both, and here’s how the results compare.

0-100 kmph |
11.63 seconds |
14.05 seconds |
Quarter Mile |
17.89 seconds |

Note: While the 2024 Swift was tested using our expert equipment, the testing environment was not identical to that of the previous-generation Swift’s testing. This includes the fact that the new Swift was tested with one passenger on board in addition to the driver.

Both the models tested here are the manual variants. The performance gap of the new-gen Z Series engine is evident, and there seems to be more than just an 8 PS drop in power at play here.
On a sprint from standstill to 100 kmph, the third-gen Swift is 2.42 seconds quicker than the 2024 Swift. Over a quarter mile, this gap closes down to a difference of 1.41 seconds. While it is not surprising that the new 2024 Swift is slower than its outgoing model, the gap is perhaps bigger than expected. Instead, you are promised better mileage for lower running costs.
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is offered in 5 different variants and two transmission options, a manual and an AMT automatic. Priced from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom), it rivals other hatchbacks in the segment like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago, and is an alternative to micro SUVs like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
