Tata has launched the highly anticipated Curvv ICE SUV-coupe from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It is available in 7 broad trims: Smart, Pure +, Creative, Creative S, Creative + S, Accomplished S and Accomplished + A. In this article, we will be taking you through the base variant of the Curvv to see if it’s actually a variant that you can opt for if you are on a budget. Here are its details:
Variant |
Smart 1.2-litre petrol MT |
Smart 1.5-litre diesel MT |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 10 lakh |
Rs 11.5 lakh |
As seen above, prices for the base variant ranges from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upfront, even though it is a base variant, it still features LED headlamps and LED DRLs. It misses out on LED fog lamps that are available as you move up in the variant lineup.
In profile, you get 16-inch steel wheels and flush fitted door handles which are standard across all variants. The flush door handles also get a welcome light. The main attraction however, is the sloping roofline which looks sporty and unique and to add a touch of sportiness in the styling, the Curvv also gets a split roof-mounted rear spoiler..
The rear sports LED tail lamps but the middle part isn’t illuminated. It misses out on a rear defogger, connected LED tail lamps and a shark fin antenna which make the SUV more appealing.
The base variant comes in 2 colours: Pristine White and Daytona Grey.
While the dashboard layout of the base-spec Curvv is the same, you don’t get the four-spoke Harrier-inspired steering wheel as seen in the higher trims. Instead, there’s a two-spoke unit that’s similar to the Nexon.
In terms of features, the base-spec Curvv gets a 4-inch multi-information display along with analogue dials, manual AC, height adjustment for driver seat, tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, rear roof lamp, anti-glare IRVM, and all four power windows. In terms of safety, it gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and hill-hold assist.
Looking at the features list, the biggest miss here is an infotainment and music system which is offered in the next in line variant, but that too gets a 7-inch unit only. However, with this base-spec variant, you do get all the basic functional features and all essential safety features that one would expect.
The Curvv’s base variant is available with the Nexon-sourced 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol engine which produces 120 PS and 170 Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 118 PS and 260 Nm. Both engines can be had only with a 6-speed manual transmission. If you need the convenience of an automatic transmission, you can choose the one-above base Pure + variant.
The Tata Curvv Smart variant is priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV-coupe rivals compact SUVs like the Citroen Basalt, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos and VW Taigun. For more details about the Curvv, head over to our launch story.
