Tata is coming in hot in 2024, starting with the Punch EV, which has just been unveiled. Tata hasn’t taken the easy way out by just plonking an electric powertrain underneath the top hat of the standard car, no. Instead, the Punch EV gets a dedicated EV platform, which will underpin future carmaker’s EVs as well, and has given it a whole lotta cosmetic tweaks and feature additions.
For the ones curious about what exactly sets the 2024 Punch EV apart from the standard Micro SUV, here are all the differences and similarities between the ICE-powered Punch and Punch EV:
Tata has clearly taken inspiration from the facelifted Nexon EV for designing the nose of the Punch EV. The sleek connected LED DRLs, the split headlights and fog lamps, and the tweaked bumper design can be spotted – all similar to the 2023 Nexon EV.
Compared to the standard Punch, the electric guise does look sharper and more modern, while the ICE-Punch looks more traditional and boxier in its design. That said, both the cars do give out a similar rugged and beefy demeanor.

From the side and rear, things are rather similar between the two save for the alloys. The silhouette is exactly the same, the rear door handles are still mounted on the C-pillar, and both sport some heavy cladding towards the lower side sills. Only difference comes in the form of the missing fuel port on the rear fender for the Punch EV.
Even the styling cues are carbon copy at the rear, save for the ‘.EV’ wordmark attached to the Punch moniker in the electric version.
While Tata hasn’t revealed the cabin images for the Punch EV, we expect the majority of the dashboard design to be similar. However, the packaging and floor will be slightly different, owing to the different platforms. Moving beyond the style, the Punch EV clearly has an advantage in the features department.
It gets a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera, Arcade.ev, ventilated front seats, six airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto hold. blind spot monitor and an air purifier over the ICE-powered Tata Punch. Its LED headlights and DRLs also get the welcome and goodbye animation, which adds to the feel good factor of the Punch EV.
Common features between the two include sunroof, auto fold ORVMs, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, USB Type-C charger, and cruise control.
Of course, this is the parameter that gives the two cars their own unique identities. The Punch gets a simple 1.2-litre NA petrol with an output of 86PS/113Nm. It can be had with a 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.
On the other hand, the Punch EV gets two powertrain options: Long range and Standard range. Again, Tata hasn’t revealed the battery specifications, but the platform is capable of offering a claimed range of between 300-600km. Given that its positioned between the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, we suspect the base model to get specs similar to the sedan and the Long Range’s specs should mimic the Nexon EV medium range

Considering that the initial cost of procurement for EVs is still heftier than combustion engines, the Punch EV will surely be more expensive than the ICE-powered Punch which retails between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 10.09 lakh (ex-showroom). We suspect the Tata Punch EV to be priced from around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom)

Even the set of rivals will be different as the Punch EV will take on the Citroen eC3, while the ICE-punch rivals the Hyundai Exter, Citroen C3, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
