BYD recently launched the facelifted eMAX 7 electric MPV, replacing its first ever launch in India - the e6. With this facelift, the eMAX 7 has not only gotten bigger and more powerful, it also gets big changes inside its cabin with an extra row of seats and additional features. All of its changes make it a much more suitable rival to one of India’s beloved MPV - the Toyota Innova Hycross.
But despite its step in the right direction, we feel there still is scope for improvement without a lot of effort. So here are 5 features we think BYD should’ve definitely offered with the eMAX 7 facelift:
Given that the 6-seater version of the eMAX 7 with its captain seats is likely going to be used predominantly as a chauffeur driven car, BYD should’ve offered seat ventilation for the second row as even cars a segment below (Alcazar) offer this feature.
As it stands, only the front row passengers can enjoy that feature.
Okay, ventilated seats might be a feel good feature, but cup holders aren’t and they are a big miss for the eMAX 7’s captain seats. You only get door pockets and you can only fit water bottles in there because of their angle.
A feature we believe should be present in more cars, rear sun shades are a dear miss for the eMAX 7. Road trip family vehicles should especially offer this convenience feature to block out the harsh sun on those long distance journeys. And when driving in town, apart from giving you protection from the sun, these offer shielding from prying eyes as well.
While the third row offers a decent space for average size adults and plenty for kids, it misses out on a charging outlet.
The ports in the second row are too far away for the third row passengers to access, and we believe a 12V socket should’ve been offered here at the very least.
We know that this isn’t a must have feature, and flicking the IRVM manually doesn’t take a LOT of effort.
But, a car costing Rs 30 lakh plus on road should ideally offer this convenience feature. And the significance of this feature is even more important in a country like India where most people don’t understand the concept of high beam.
These were the list of 5 features we think BYD should’ve offered with the eMAX 7. They definitely aren’t dealbreakers, but having them would further add to the overall appeal of the electric MPV, which is trying pretty hard to take a bite out of the Innova Hycross’ sales.
Prices for the eMAX 7 range between Rs 26.90 lakh and Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
