With numerous spy sightings, it’s an open secret that Tata has a new Nexon in the pipeline. The test mules have revealed its radically different front and rear-end styling and key interior updates. We’ve pieced together a fair bit of the new Nexon’s story, and here’s everything we know so far:
Despite the camouflage, it’s clear to see that the new Nexon looks distinct from the existing model, only recognisable by its silhouette which remains unchanged. Its overall design seems inspired by the Tata Curvv concept at the front, with features such as split headlights and a shark-nose faux upper grille. The actual grille is a two-part unit with sporty mesh designs, placed lower down on the bumper.
The rear features a sharper, steeply raked tailgate and a prominent spoiler on the roof. Other important changes are the new alloy wheels, Audi-esque sequential turn signals and connected taillights.
The Curvv-inspired, futuristic aesthetic continues inside the new Nexon, starting with the new two-spoke steering that looks similar to the concept coupe-SUV’s wheel. It’ll also get a redesigned dashboard and upper center console with touch-based AC controls.

Currently, the existing Nexon’s seven-inch touchscreen seems small compared with the competition. The new SUV will remedy this with a larger 10.25-inch unit that’ll soon make its debut in the Nexon lineup starting with the Nexon EV Max. Apart from this, the new Nexon should also get a new seven-inch digital driver’s display and basic driver-assistance features (such as blind-spot warning).
Like before, the new Nexon will comply with sub-four-metre regulation requirements, so it won’t go for a bigger displacement for either its petrol or diesel engines. However, the petrol engine should be Tata’s new T-GDI 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit making 125PS. Fingers crossed, it could get a dual-clutch (DCT) automatic option aside from the standard six-speed manual unit. The 110PS, 1.5-litre diesel engine will be carried forward as it has already been updated to BS6 phase II emission norms.
As for the Nexon EV, the electric SUV should continue with standard-range Nexon EV Prime (30.2kWh battery, around 300km of range) and long-range Nexon EV Max (40.5kWh battery, 453km of range) variants, powered by Tata’s Ziptron electric architecture.
The new Tata Nexon is expected to arrive in early 2024, replacing the existing subcompact SUV that retails from Rs 7.8 lakh (ex-showroom). The Nexon’s chief rivals are the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and the Nissan Magnite.
