Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce its SUV-coupe, the Curvv, in the hotly contested compact SUV segment. Upon release, it will compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, as well as the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX in its all-electric version. Besides its distinct positioning, the Curvv boasts some unique design elements that set it apart from its rivals. Here are the top five.
Tata has adopted a more radical approach in designing the Curvv, presenting it as an SUV-coupe as opposed to the traditional SUV body style. One prominent design element is its sloping roofline that gives it a much sportier demeanour.
Another design element that enhances the sporty vibe of the Curvv is its unconventional alloy wheels. These multi-spoke wheels, measuring 18 inches in size, resemble flower petals, and nicely fills out the large squared-out wheel arches that further contribute to the car's dynamic appearance.
The Curvv features flush door handles, which is a first in the compact SUV segment in India. Tata seems to have drawn a leaf out of the Range Rover lineup for this feature. These flush door handles add to the premiumness of the Curvv and make the side profile look sleek.
With the 2023 Nexon EV facelift, Tata introduced a feature in its DRL and connected tail lamp setup, providing a welcome and goodbye animation when you lock or unlock the car. This feature will likely be carried forward with the Curvv, adding to the wow factor. Additionally, with the Curvv EV, you can expect this system to act as a smart charging indicator as well.
At the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo, Tata showcased a near production-ready Curvv, where we saw the integration of its ADAS module into its air dam. This integration appears to be neatly executed on the exterior of the Curvv and spotting it will be difficult to the untrained eye. Also, it’s a departure from the typical placement seen with the camera system integrated into the windshield.
Both the Curvv and the Curvv EV are set to be launched later this year. Earlier, we reported their confirmed launch timeline, which you can check out over here. In terms of pricing, the Curvv is expected to start from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the Curvv EV will likely start from Rs 20 lakh.
The Tata Curvv will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Skoda Kushaq, while the Curvv EV will compete against the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, as well as the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and the Maruti Suzuki eVX.
