If you’re in the market for a new three-row SUV, the new 2023 Tata Safari facelift should be in your list. The design changes and feature additions now make it a more compelling package. But how does it fare when pitched against its closest competitor, the MG Hector Plus? Well, here are six ways the Safari betters the Hector Plus in these aspects:
For added comfort, the 6-seater variants of the 2023 Tata Safari feature ventilated seats both in the first and second row as well. In contrast, the MG Hector Plus offers front ventilated seats but doesn’t get them in the second row. Do note that second row ventilated seats aren’t offered with the Safari’s 7-seater variants. .
If you prefer a diesel engine with an automatic transmission, the Safari is your only choice here as it gets a 6-speed automatic transmission with the 170PS 2-litre diesel engine. On the other hand MG Hector Plus’ diesel engine is available only with a manual. However, you get an auto ‘box with the Hector that’s limited to its 143PS 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

With this update, the 2023 Tata Safari offers a dual-zone fully automatic climate control, while the MG Hector Plus gets a single-zone unit. So no fighting between you and the co-driver on who wants their predefined temperature. A point to note is that you can control the AC in both models using your smartphone before entering the car.
With its updated design, the 2023 Tata Safari features connected LED tail lights and DRLs that have a welcoming and goodbye function. In contrast, the MG Hector Plus has connected LED taillights but lacks connected DRLs. Although, both the cars include sequential turn indicators for that modern touches.
Tata has plonked in a 10.25-inch fully digital driver's display in the Safari that’s highly customisable. You can also relay the navigation from the infotainment system for that added bit of convenience. In contrast, the MG Hector Plus has a 7-inch digital instrument cluster that isn’t as customisable as the Safari’s.
The Safari’s co-driver seat gets a 4-way powered adjustment, and occupants sitting behind this seat get a nifty feature called Boss mode. Basically, there are controls placed on the seat’s side, so you can open legroom if there’s no one sitting ahead of you.
Prices for the 2023 Tata Safari facelift start from Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 27.34 lakh (ex-showroom), while those of the MG Hector Plus start from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models also lock horns with the Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar.
