Skoda recently introduced its new entry-level offering for the Indian market, the Kylaq. With prices starting at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kylaq has entered the ever-growing sub-four metre SUV segment. Not only does it compete against a range of offerings, but also the Maruti Fronx, which also starts at a similar starting price of Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom). In this article, we list all the features that the Kylaq offers over the Fronx.
A standout feature in the Kylaq is its single-pane electric sunroof, which also comes with an anti-pinch function. While the Kylaq comes with a single-pane sunroof, rivals, such as the Mahindra 3XO and Tata Nexon recently introduced the panoramic sunroof. In comparison, the Fronx does not come with either the panoramic sunroof or the single-pane sunroof.
In hot Indian summers, ventilated seats are a welcome feature, and Skoda’s Kylaq is one of the few SUVs in its segment to offer this feature for the front-row seats. However, the Maruti Fronx does not get ventilated seats.
Skoda has equipped the Kylaq with a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is also available with its elder siblings, the Slavia and Kushaq. In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx comes with a slightly smaller 9-inch touchscreen unit. Both infotainment, however, offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Another notable feature the Kylaq also borrows from its elder siblings is the 8-inch all-digital driver’s display that shows various read outs, including audio, telephone, and vehicle information. On the other hand, Maruti has given the Fronx an analogue instrument cluster with a small multi-info display.
Carmakers are keen on offering more and more safety features in their cars and the Kylaq is no exception as it boasts six airbags as a standard fitment. While the Fronx also offers six airbags, they are available only in select top-spec variants, such as Delta Plus (O), Zeta, and Alpha.
New entry-level cars arriving in the market have brought several segment first features and one such comfort and convenience feature is powered seats. Skoda now offers the Kylaq with six-way electronic adjustment front-row seats. However, Maruti does not offer this feature in the Fronx and all of its adjustment is only manual.
Ambient lighting, typically seen in luxury cars, is still an uncommon feature in most mass-market cars. The Kylaq comes with ambient lighting. Although the Fronx does not offer it, there is footwell illumination in the front.
While ventilated seats are a boon, the cooled glovebox can also help passengers to beat the heat, by keeping their beverages or food items cool in the hot weather. The Maruti Fronx, however, does not offer it.
Brake disc wiping, an often-overlooked safety function, increases efficiency and safety of brakes in rains. Simply put, the system gently presses brake pads against the discs at certain intervals to remove water during heavy rains. The Kylaq comes equipped with this feature but the Maruti Fronx does not.
The new Skoda Kylaq brings several distinct features to the table that stand it apart from its rivals and from the cars in the same price segment. Although the Kylaq comes with a host of features, it does miss out on a few other features that the Maruti Suzuki offers with the Fronx. And we will cover that in our upcoming stories in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for when that is live.
