The long awaited updates to the Tata Harrier and Safari are finally here. Bookings for the facelifted SUVs are also open. The mid-life update brings changes to the exterior and interior styling, while adding new features to the fray. There are even four new trims on offer – Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Fearless – which further break down into numerous variants.
So today, we take a look at what the base-spec Tata Harrier looks like and packs by using 6 images:
Despite being the base-spec trim, the Harrier still gets the new connected LED DRL setup at the front along with the new LED projector headlamps that sit below it. The grille has been blacked out but the skid plate has been finished in Silver. It misses out on the LED fog lamps and ‘follow me’ function that are available from the one-below-top Adventure trim.
In profile, it gets the same 17-inch 5-spoke monotone alloy wheels which were available in the outgoing model. The door handles are body coloured and the car also gets a roof rail.
The rear too features a connected LED taillight setup. And matching the scheme at the front, the black bumper gets a Silver finish for the skid plate. The base-spec Smart trim is only available in two exterior hues: Ash Grey and Lunar White.
The cabin of the base spec Harrier seems to be following a dark black theme for the most part, but the fabric seats do get a grey hue for contrast. It follows the revised styling with the sleeker central AC vents and touch-sensitive climate controls beneath it. And it features the new 4-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo as well.
As evident from the picture, there is no infotainment screen in the middle, but behind the steering wheel is the 7-inch digital driver’s display from the pre-facelift model.
Despite the lack of an infotainment system, the 2023 Tata Harrier base variant still gets a fair amount of kit, including fully automatic single-zone climate control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, height adjustment for the driver and passenger seat, all four power windows, rear AC vents, and Type-A and Type-C charging ports right from its base variant.
Even in terms of safety, it features tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags, ISOFIX, electronic stability program, hill hold control, traction control, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors right from its entry level trim.
So even though the Harrier’s base-spec variant misses out on infotainment needs, it still packs the basics and even a few premium features.
There hasn’t been any revision in the powertrain of the Harrier as it continues with its 170PS 2-litre diesel engine, teamed with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT. Being a base-spec model, the Smart Harrier will only get the 6-speed MT option. The manual returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.8kmpl, while the automatic delivers 14.6kmpl.
Prices for the outgoing Tata Harrier juggled between Rs 15.19 lakh and Rs 24.26 lakh (ex-showroom). It is possible that Tata might match the starting price of the outgoing model; and if not, expect a slight bump in its prices as the variant hierarchy climbs up. It’ll continue its rivalry with the likes of the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 5-seater and Jeep Compass. Apart from that, it will also lock horns with compact SUVs such as Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
