Tata has just revealed the prices of the facelifted Tata Nexon alongside the simultaneous launch of its electric version, the Nexon EV. We’ve already covered what the top-spec ICE-powered Nexon looks like and features, and today we decipher what the package of its base variant looks like in images. Let’s go:
Despite being the starting point of the variant lineup, the Tata Nexon Smart variant features LED headlights and DRLs. What’s missing here is the fog lamps and the sequential turn indicator feature that you get on the higher trims.
The profile is plain and simple with no snazzy wheels. Instead, you get simple 16-inch wheels without any covers. The simplicity continues at the rear with a pair of LED taillights. You do get a strip that connects the two flanking units but it isn’t illuminated here. You also don’t get the welcome and goodbye function, as that is limited to the Fearless trim.
This variant gets a total of three monotone exterior hues: Calgary White, Flame Red, and Daytona Grey. We have detailed its variant-wise colour options here.
The cabin of the base-spec Tata Nexon is rather rudimentary. The seat fabric is plain and you don’t get the touch sensitive buttons for the HVAC. Those are replaced by conventional dials followed by buttons at the bottom, which is similar to the outgoing car’s button setup.
There is no screen as there are no infotainment features in this variant, and the two-spoke steering also doesn’t get any touch-sensitive buttons, but still gets gloss black plastic trim. Neither are there any AC vents for the rear passengers and even the windows are manual at the rear.
A plus point to a few feature omissions is that you get extra storage areas around the central console, something that isn’t available in the top-spec variants.

The small list of features that are present include the illuminated logo for the steering, front power windows, reversing sensors, central locking, power outlet (front), and front power windows. But despite being the base variant, the safety kit features six airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX mounts, and hill hold control, which is standard.
The Smart variant of the Tata Nexon only gets a single powertrain option: an 120PS/170Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual. A 6-speed MT is available from the Pire variant onwards, while the AMT and DCT option is available from the Creative trims. There’s also an option of a 1.5-litre diesel engine in the other variants. It does offer three drive modes: Eco, City, and Sport.
With a price tag of Rs 8.1 lakh (ex-showroom), Tata has positioned the base-spec facelifted Nexon rather aggressively. The Tata Nexon continues to fight it out with the likes of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Fronx, Nissan Magnite and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 facelift.
