The Chennai-based bikemaker acquires a small stake in Stark Future, a Spanish electric dirt bike manufacturer

Royal Enfield’s parent company, Eicher Motors, has announced an investment of EUR 50 million in Stark Future, a Spanish electric mobility company that specialises in electric dirt bikes.

This equity investment made by Eicher Motors translates to a 10.35 percent equity stake in Stark Future, with the former also getting a seat on the e-bike maker’s board. This will allow both the brands to explore opportunities to collaborate in the space of electric mobility.

Stark Future currently only has one product in its lineup, a performance electric motocross bike called the Stark Varg. It is available in two variants: 60PS and the more powerful 80PS. What’s more enticing about this bike is that it weighs only 110kg.

And much like Tony Stark aided by JARVIS, this Stark too is aided by an Android, or at least an Android phone. It is the central hub for the bike’s electronic systems, allowing the rider to adjust the power curve, engine braking, flywheel effect and traction control, thus providing over 100 riding combinations to try out.

It comes with a healthy 6kWh battery pack that takes between one to two hours to fully charge via fast charging. There’s no official range figure but Stark claims the Varg can be ridden for six hours on trails, or even complete a full MXGP heat, which usually is around 20 minutes at peak performance.

While details of Royal Enfield’s first electric prototype were recently revealed, we feel that an electric adventure from the company would not be commercially viable to begin with, and here’s why.
