The great Enzo Ferrari needs no introduction. Say what you want about the great old man and his not-so-pleasing (to put it politely) attitude and outlook, Ferrari is what it is today only because of the man. We know Enzo Ferrari as a founder, businessman, racer and race car maker. What we don’t know, of course, is how Enzo started from scratch and created one of the most prestigious bands in the world.
Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari
Director Micheal Mann also feels the same and thus we are getting a biopic on il Commendatore bankrolled by STX international studios. It is backed by an ensemble cast that includes Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O'Connell, and Patrick Dempsey. Although the footballer Mesut Özil would’ve been the best person in the entire universe and beyond to play Enzo Ferrari, they had to sign Adam Driver for obvious reasons.

Based on the 1991 book by Brock Yates, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine”, the movie’s screenplay is compiled by Mann and Troy Kennedy Martin.
The movie reportedly is based on events that unravelled in 1957, when Ferrari filed for bankruptcy and then took off with the 1000-mile Mille Miglia race. The movie is also set to portray Ferrari’s personal life, which includes his marriage to Laura (played by Penélope), mistress Lina Lardi (played by Shailene Woodley) and two sons - Alfredo Ferrari and Piero Lardi Ferrari.

Presently, the movie is being shot in Italy and is expected to wrap up and hit the screens by 2023. Behind the lens is Oscar-winning Erik Messerschmidt, while editing duties are handled by Pietro Scalia. It is no surprise that Micheal Mann is into cars as he has raced some in the past. Hardcore movie buffs will also know Mann through Heat, the same movie with one of the best car chases to date.
Frankly, we can’t wait for the movie and to witness how Adam Driver portrays Ferrari in this biopic, which we expect to finally shed some light on the great old man’s life, legacy and of course, cars. Forza Ferrari!
