  • Fourth-gen Suzuki Swift gets spied under camouflage wrap.

  • Likely to continue with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine as current-gen Swift in India.

  • More advanced mild hybrid tech could be offered on the 2023 Maruti Swift.

  • Could get a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen and six airbags similar to the Baleno.

We’ve got our first look at the upcoming fourth-generation global Suzuki Swift. These spy shots reveal an all-new design with a split rear window setup and a clamshell bonnet. It’ll arrive as the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift in India, possibly at Auto Expo 2023.

Despite its heavy camouflage, the spied test mule reveals various styling cues of the upcoming Swift. It seems to retain the distinctive upright windshield and floating roof design of the current Swift.

That said, the front fascia is all new with a rounded nose and a sportier front grille design. The rear windows now have a quarter glass as the rear door handle has been moved down to a more conventional position.

Further back, the rear fascia seems to bear a clean new design that resembles the first-generation Swift.

New Maruti Swift expected features

Going by Maruti’s recently updated models such as the 2022 Baleno, the Swift could get an array of new features such as a larger 9-inch touchscreen, premium audio system and head-up display. As before, automatic climate control and cruise control should be present.

It could also get a bump in safety equipment such as six airbags and a 360-degree camera. Currently, the Swift comes with government-mandated safety kit that includes dual airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors. (maybe mention that model spied also seems to feature ADAS tech but that won’t come to India)

Current Swift's 1.2-litre petrol engine bay for reference

In India, 2023 Maruti Swift is likely to be offered with the same 90PS 1.2-litre DualJet K12C petrol engine as the current Swift, paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT automatic transmission. Possibly, it could get a mild-hybrid system paired with the petrol engine for increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions (the current Swift claims over 22kmpl).

The next-generation Maruti Swift is likely to come at a premium over the existing hatchback that costs between Rs 5.92 lakh and Rs 8.71 lakh (ex-showroom). Its closest rival will continue to be the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios with the Renault Triber as a more spacious alternative.
