These launches that we know of already, give us a lot to look forward to in 2023

With 2022 behind us, we thought it’s time to take stock of all the models that we have to look forward to in the new year. Most carmakers have ambitious plans for the Indian market, such as furthering electrification and plug-in hybrids, the fruits of which we will see this year.

At the beginning of 2023, it’s time to take a look at all the models that have already been confirmed to arrive during the year:

Maruti Suzuki

India’s largest carmaker has a few much-anticipated models up its sleeve. These include the Baleno-based subcompact crossover and the long-awaited five-door Jimny. An MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross is also in the works.

Korean carmaker Hyundai also has interesting models in the pipeline for 2023, such as the next-generation Verna sedan, facelifted i10 hatchback and Aura sedan and a micro SUV to rival the Tata Punch. Ahead of these launches, the carmaker will announce the prices of its flagship Ioniq 5 EV at Auto Expo 2023.

Hyundai’s sister company, Kia, is expected to bring the facelifted Seltos to India in 2023. It gets refreshed front and rear-end styling, new alloys and a floating dual display interior panel. Its powertrains could remain unchanged, but the facelifted SUV could get a major safety update with driver-assistance features.

Citroen

The French carmaker will introduce an electrified version of its mass market C3 hatchback. It’ll go up against the Tata Tiago EV, with an expected real-world range of around 180-220km. Other aspects of the eC3 should remain unchanged, but it could get a few additional features over its sparsely-equipped ICE sibling.

Mahindra

Mahindra’s compact-sized EV, the XUV400, will soon be launched as a rival to the Tata Nexon EV Max. It offers a powerful 150PS electric drivetrain good for nought to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds. With a 39.5kWh battery pack, the EV, Mahindra claims, will deliver a range of up to 456km.

Tata

The Indian carmaker has facelifted versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs in the works. We could see the SUV duo at Auto Expo 2023, with revised front and rear end styling and a longer list of features. The test mules that were spied on indicate that the SUVs could also get driver-assistance features that only the Mahindra XUV700 and MG Astor offer in the segment currently.

MG

The carmaker will introduce its second EV in the country this year, this time a mass market offering. It’ll be a cutesy compact two-door EV with up to four seats and a minimalist but spacious interior. It should offer a claimed range of up to 300km, powered by a 41PS e-motor.

Toyota

The Hilux pickup truck is expected to get some updates in 2023. It won’t be a generational update (the platform and overall aesthetics won’t change), but it should add a few features to the pickup truck such as a 360-degree camera and driver-assistance tech.

Force

Five-door lifestyle SUVs could soon become a thing, and Force is readying a long-wheelbase version of the Gurkha 4x4 for such a time. It’ll be offered with three rows of seating for up to nine people, with the same infotainment and off-roading equipment as the existing three-door model.

Unconfirmed launches

The above list of cars only included models that have either already been unveiled, or have been reliably confirmed for launch in 2023. We know of several vehicles which may or may not make it to India during the year. These include:

  • 2023 Renault Duster

  • New Honda WR-V

  • Mahindra Thar five-door

  • Production-ready Tata Curvv EV
