While an infotainment system used to be a simple entertainment system in cars, a lot has changed in recent years, with enough tech to make them essentially a smartphone in a car. And Maruti Suzuki has also made that leap with the next-gen range of Smart Play infotainment systems that debuted in the 2022 Maruti Baleno. Sure, only the hatchback currently has it, but it will eventually make it to the rest of the lineup.
Here’s a lowdown on what makes these new infotainment systems special:
Smart Play Pro
Starting off with the first unit on offer, this one’s a floating unit measuring 7 inches, with a 1000:1 contrast ratio. This one’s got quite a loaded layout, but there are shortcuts for easy access to the main functions. It comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which basically syncs your smartphone to the infotainment and also functions as a handy voice assistant. The latter actually act as a nice safety feature since you only need to use voice commands to make calls without needing to operate the touchscreen, which is a distraction of sorts while driving.
It also allows for a reverse parking camera with dynamic guidelines and a reverse park assist to make parking in tight spaces easier. It also keeps the driver up to date by alerting the driver when they are running low on fuel, if a door is open, the seatbelt is not on, and other alerts. You can even control certain functions such as the footwell lighting, door unlocking, the AC mode while in idle and the lane change blinker via the touchscreen. The best part? The Smart Play Pro will be constantly up to date via OTA updates via the Smart Play app on mobile.
Smart Play Pro+
Next up is the Smart Play Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, which is a top of the line system featuring a larger 9-inch unit. While it gets all the bells and whistles from the Smart Play Pro, there’s more bits that enhance the experience. For starters, your music experience can be enhanced by Surround Sense, tuned by Arkamys, where you can choose your ideal music profile. The rear camera is upgraded to a 360 view unit which gives the driver a top view of the car and hence further assistance in parking.
Overall, Maruti Suzuki’s next-gen Smart Play infotainment system plays a key part in enhancing the appeal of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which already boasts a stylish design, and a powerful 90PS 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine.
