Forget red, carmakers of late have been painting the town black…with the introduction of special editions. After Tata, Maruti and Hyundai, it is now Renault’s turn as the French marque has rolled out Urban Night Editions of all its models – the Kwid, Kiger and Triber – in India for the upcoming festive period. However, if you are willing to get yourself one, do put your name down soon as the carmaker will be offering only 300 units of each model.
The special edition is based on the top-spec variant of each model, commanding a premium of Rs 6,999 for the Kwid and Rs 14,999 for the Kiger and Triber, respectively. Renault is now also offering the new black exterior paint option on the Kwid and Triber, while it was already available on the Kiger.
All limited edition models come with silver finished skid plates at the front and back, headlight bezels, bumper garnishes, and black ORVM housings. They also get a chrome strip on the lower portion of the tailgate, puddle lamps, and silver finish on the roof rails. While the Kiger gets black alloy wheels, the Triber and Kwid come with silver-finished rims.
Inside, all three models get illuminated scuff plates, ambient lighting (only on the Kiger) and a 9.66-inch Smart Mirror Monitor (only on the Triber and Kiger). It essentially is an IRVM with adjustable angles and as a dual-camera dashcam for recording videos from the front and rear cameras. It allows for smartphone connectivity for downloading the recorded content.
The special editions of the three Renault cars don’t get any mechanical revisions under their hood.
Renault offers the Kwid with a 1-litre petrol engine (68PS/91Nm) paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The Triber, on the other hand, uses a 1-litre naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine (72PS/96Nm) paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
If you pick Renault’s sub-4m SUV, it can be had with either a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (72PS/96Nm) and a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (100PS/160Nm). Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, and the automatic transmission for both units includes an optional 5-speed AMT for the former and a CVT for the latter.

The only direct rival to the Kiger’s Urban Night edition is the Tata Nexon Dark, Hyundai Venue Knight Edition and Kia Sonet X-Line (featuring a matte grey finish). Renault’s entry-level hatchback faces competition from the Maruti Alto K10 and Maruti S-Presso, while the Triber doesn’t have any direct rivals.
