Here is how the Italian and the Japanese performance scooters fare against each other

The Aprilia SR 160 Race and the Yamaha Aerox 155 are the two most powerful sub-200cc scooters available in India. So how do they perform against each other in the real world?

Acceleration

Yamaha Aerox 155

0-40kmph

3.30s

3.55s

0-60kmph

6.26s

7.45s

0-80kmph

10.91s

14.22s

In terms of outright acceleration, the Yamaha Aerox 155 bags the win. However, the difference in the 0-40kmph sprint isn’t that significant and both scooters are actually pretty close here. What is notable is that the Aerox 155’s VVA technology offers a strong mid range, giving it the edge over the Aprilia SR 160 Race by more than a second in the 0-60kmph sprint and by more than three seconds in the 0-80kmph run.

In the case of Aprilia, the grunt is felt only at speeds between 40 and 70kmph. The Aerox 155 doesn’t feel particularly quick when it comes to bottom-end performance.

Roll-on Acceleration

20-50kmph (roll-on)

3.15s

3.56s

Despite the Aerox 155 winning the roll-on acceleration test, there isn’t a huge difference in the numbers managed by both scooters. The Aprilia SR 160 Race’s 11.01PS manages to match up to the Aerox 155’s 15PS performance without much hesitation in this test.

Despite being performance scooters, the Aerox 155 and Aprilia SR 160, offer surprisingly decent fuel efficiency on the road. In the city, Aerox 155’s liquid-cooled, VVA-equipped engine manages to offer 4.6kmpl more than the Aprilia SR 160 Race.

Braking

Yamaha Aerox 155

80-0kmph

38.53m

37.02m

60-0kmph

20.32m

19.23m

Both the scooters are equipped with a disc up front and drum brake at the rear with single-channel ABS. Despite the similarity, this is where the Aprilia manages to beat the Aerox 155, which we think partially comes down to the Aprilia’s lighter kerb weight. The Aerox 155’s braking response robs you of confidence when pushing the scooter to its limits, whereas the Aprilia locks up its rear wheel easily under hard braking.

The Aerox 155 is an all-rounder with more features and better performance at the same price as the Aprilia SR 160 Race. If you are looking to understand the differences between these scooters beyond just performance, then you can check out our full comparison review here
