Aprilia has launched the SR Max250 HPE (High Performance Edition) maxi scooter in the Chinese domestic market, and we can only drool over its beauty. The updated model gets a bump in performance but packs the same tech and features as the base SR Max250 sold in China.
In terms of appearance, the SR Max250 HPE gets a properly sporty design with edgy body panels, further accentuated by the matte grey and red colour scheme. It gets a twin LED headlight setup mounted on the bulky fascia. It also features a large windscreen, which will be very useful on long rides.
Powering the Aprilia SR Max250 HPE is a new high-performance 244cc, liquid-cooled engine, churning out a whopping 25.9PS and 22.5Nm. By scooter standards, the power and torque outputs are high and should make the SR Max250 HPE an incredible performer. For perspective, the Keeway Vieste 300 is powered by a 278.2cc, liquid-cooled engine but produces only 18.9PS and 22Nm.
The underpinnings of the performance-oriented scooter include a telescopic fork and dual gas-charged shock absorbers. Braking hardware comprises 260mm floating disc with four piston radial callipers up front and a 240mm disc with dual piston callipers at the rear. It also gets dual channel ABS for that extra safety required considering its power figures.
In terms of features, the Aprilia SR Max250 HPE comes packed with a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster and two ride modes: Eco and Sport. Also, it features a massive underseat storage space and gets ASR traction control.
With a price tag equivalent to Rs 3.16 lakh (without Indian taxes), the SR Max250 HPE is not too expensive, yet not too affordable, either. But it does pack a lot of performance features and safety tech. However, it will not be heading to our shores anytime soon. If you are looking for a sub-300cc maxi-scooter, you can check out the Keeway Vieste 300. More affordable alternatives would be the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160.
