Do you remember the Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate? It was the most powerful road going version of the car; and on a sad note, one of the last batch of DBS you can buy before the iconic nameplate is put to rest. But before that happens, Aston wanted to give one last surprise to its enthusiasts. How? Meet the Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate Volante.
It is essentially Aston Martin’s take on a convertible. And man, what a stunner she is to look at! It has the right mix of elegance, which is very much needed for a grand tourer, while the sporty design touches all around dial up the aggressiveness. And while it looks gorgeous from all angles, this author’s favourite is the rear quarters, where it looks minimalist, yet really sporty.
The interior, in itself, is a work of art. Yes, the design might be a bit old school, but what makes this place so special is the effort and hardwork that goes into it. Almost every bit you see on the dash is handcrafted and tough hours go behind to make sure this interior comes to life. And obviously, there are tonnes of customisation options to choose from to make this the way you like.

Now to the heart of the matter, which is the thumping 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine putting out a mammoth 770PS and a gargantuan 900Nm. Managed to swallow those numbers? Then hear out the performance stats. Nought to 100kmph = 3.6 seconds. Top speed = 340kmph. Mind boggling, right?
And obviously, to handle all that power with razor sharp handling, numerous tweaks have been made underneath the skin. For instance, the front-end part of the chassis has been stiffened up by 25 percent and the steering rack has been retuned for better turn in. The splitter and the clamshell bonnet ensures better aerodynamic efficiency. And lastly, carbon ceramic brakes means you have the reins to bring this beast to a stop without drama.
All well and good. But now to the sad reality. Before you even think about getting one, Aston said it’ll be making only 199 units and all of them have been spoken for earlier, when the coupe was revealed. But yeah, what a befitting farewell for an iconic car. Adios DBS!
