Ather Energy is working on its first electric bike, which the manufacturer plans to launch in the next few years. In a recent interview, Ravneet Phokela, chief business officer at Ather, revealed that the brand is planning to come up with electric motorcycles in the next three to five years.
Previously in 2019, Ather announced it would introduce its first electric bike in the next three to four years, which should have been some time now. But since then, quite a lot has happened, including the pandemic, FAME 2 subsidy changes, and the fact that the EV maker had been busy with launching new products including the Ather 450S, Ather 450 Apex, and also the upcoming Ather Rizta. These developments explain the reason behind the delay.

We now know that we will get to see the first of Ather Energy’s electric bikes between 2027-2029. The Ather e-bike is expected to be a sporty commuter and deliver a performance similar to 150cc petrol-powered bikes.
Ather’s competitor, Ola Electric is also working on not one but four electric bikes which the brand also showcased at the Bharat GP. While Ola plans to launch the first of the lot by 2024-end, we’ll have to wait and see whether it actually materialises.
By the time the bike comes to life, the EV market will not depend on any subsidies. We expect it to be priced at around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the likes of Tork Kratos R, and Matter Aera, with the Revolt RV400 being a more affordable alternative.
