After a busy day 1, kickstarting things on day 2 is MG Motor India. The Chinese carmaker has taken the wraps off the Euniq 7 MPV. And unlike any other MPV you see on the road, this one is a bit different: it utilises a cleaner and greener hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. So without further ado, here are 5 things you need to know about the Euniq:
At first glance, it’s no doubt that the Euniq 7 with its raked A-pillar and boxy silhouette looks like a van. The front-end is dominated by an Audi-like slatted grille, flanked by sleek swept back headlamps. Triangular-shaped airdams in the bumpers look nice and sporty. In profile, the cab forward stance and relatively boxy design is very much van-like. However, the dual tone colours and busy alloy design liven things up. Large split LED tail lamps connected by a chrome strip round off the overall design.
The cabin, on the other hand, is a totally different story. Like any other MG car, the design is premium with a floating infotainment system and overall minimalist layout. Plus, the black and blue hue on the dash and blue and beige hue on the seats liven things up. And like any other MPV, the Euniq 7 should get multiple seating options.
Top features in the Euniq 7 include a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, and keyless entry with push button start. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and a suite of ADAS features.
The Euniq 7’s USP lies here: it uses a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. So in a nutshell, the car runs on electric power drawing fuel from hydrogen fuel cells instead of a battery pack. MG hasn’t revealed power figures, however, it said it has a range of up to 605km. Plus, the 6.4kg hydrogen tank is capable of fast refuelling of up to 3 minutes.
Hydrogen fuel cell, in availability and infrastructure standpoint, is still on the sparse side in India. So this vehicle shown here is more of a showcase rather than any plans of launching in India. But, this MPV, which measures around 5.2 metres long, can be considered as an alternative to the Kia Carnival.
