The Bajaj Freedom 125 was launched in India as the world’s first-ever CNG bike. Prices for the CNG bike start at Rs 95,000 and go up to Rs 1,10,000 (ex-showroom). The Bajaj CNG bike is available in select states and Union territories only. Here’s how many CNG bikes Bajaj has sold since its launch.
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike was launched on July 5, 2024. In the first month, the CNG bike was available in only two states, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The deliveries of the Freedom 125 started on July 18 and the first CNG bike was delivered in Pune. Because of availability in select states, the sales also started off at a slower pace and the manufacturer sold only 272 bikes in July 2024.
Later in August 2024, Bajaj Auto made the CNG bike available in 77 more towns and cities including Delhi and Kerala, on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day. This boosted the sales of Freedom 125 and Bajaj was able to sell 4,109 CNG bikes in August.
Now, in just the first 4 days of September 2024, Bajaj was able to sell 637 new CNG bikes in the country. The total sales of the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike till September 4, 2024, is at 5,018 units. Moreover, the month of August had a great start for the Freedom 125’s sales and future sales also look promising with Bajaj aiming to expand the availability of the bike as the CNG infrastructure is growing along.
The Bajaj CNG bike is available in three variants: NG04 Drum, NG04 Drum LED and NG04 Disc LED. All the 3 variants of the Freedom 125 are equipped with a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which comes with both CNG and petrol compatibility and can run on any of the two fuel types.
The bike gets a 2kg CNG tank and a 2-litre petrol tank. The engine produces a peak output of 9.5PS and 9.7Nm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The Bajaj Freedom 125 has a claimed top speed of 90.5kmph on CNG and 93.4kmph on petrol.
