- The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike was also showcased at the event
Bajaj Auto has showcased the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Flex Fuel at the India Bio-Energy & Tech (IBET) Expo 2024. It was held between September 2-4, 2024, and the expo promotes the use of sustainable fuels. It is jointly organized by the Indian Federation of Green Energy and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Flex Fuel runs on a fuel that has a mixture of ethanol and petrol. Other than this, Bajaj Auto hasn’t revealed much details about the bike yet. Recently, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed that the ethanol-powered bike could be launched by March 2025. There has been encouragement from the Indian government for some time now towards E80/E100 ethanol-powered vehicles. TVS is another such manufacturer working on ethanol bikes and already showcased the Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 a few years ago. In Brazil and other South American countries, the consumption of E80/100 fuel is high and developing a flex fuel bike for the purpose of selling it in those countries makes sense where the manufacturer has a big presence. India is also expected to move towards E80/E100 eventually, and already having a fully-developed flex fuel bike will make it quite easy for Bajaj Auto to have a good presence in the market from the start.
The petrol-powered Pulsar NS160 is powered by a 160.3cc, single-cylinder engine producing 17.2PS at 9000rpm and 14.6Nm at 7250rpm. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and monoshock while braking duties are taken care of by a 300mm front disc brake and a 230mm rear disc brake.
Along with the Pulsar NS160 Flex Fuel, Bajaj Auto also showcased the recently launched Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike at the IBET Expo 2024. The Freedom 125’s prices start from Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom) and the bike is available in 3 variants: NG04 Disc LED, NG04 Drum LED and NG04 Drum. The CNG tank is placed horizontally underneath the seat. The bike is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine and produces 9.5PS and 9.7Nm. The CNG tank has a capacity of 2kg while the auxiliary petrol tank has a capacity of 2 litres. The bike has a claimed mileage of 102km per kg in CNG-only mode and 65kmpl in petrol-only mode. It doesn’t have any direct rivals but faces competition from the likes of the Honda Shine 125, Hero Glamour, Bajaj Pulsar 125, Hero Xtreme 125R and TVS Raider 125.
