Quick Highlights

  • It is the most powerful ADV offerings from the brand

BMW Motorrad India has dropped a teaser for the BMW R 1300 GS, indicating that the bike is coming to India. We expect it to be launched in India in the coming days. Here’s everything you need to know.

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is the more off-road capable sibling of the BMW R 1300 GS. The bike features a boxier design language thanks to its much larger 30-litre fuel tank, with a X shaped LED headlight and a beak-like headlight cowl. The bike manages to stand out quite a bit thanks to this unique design and styling, and has a unique identity compared to its road-biased sibling.

It is powered by a 1300cc, liquid-cooled boxer engine which outputs 145PS and 149Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.

The bike features a telelever suspension setup at the front and a paralever system in the rear. The telelever suspension setup features a centrally mounted shock-absorber and a telescopic fork.  This handles the suspension duties at the front. One of the main advantages of this system is that it helps reduce fork dive during hard braking.

At the rear, it features a paralever system. This system offers an integrated suspension and shaft-drive transmission. This helps keep the bike’s wheelbase consistent when the suspension is compressed, which helps improve the bike’s handling. It also reduces the bike’s weight, as both the suspension and transmission are taken care of by a single-sided swingarm.

The bike has 210mm suspension travel at the front and 220mm suspension travel at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a twin 310mm disc setup at the front, and a 285mm single disc at the rear.

In terms of features, the bike has electronic riding aids such as a traction control and cruise control, which will help quite a bit when touring for longer distances. The bike also gets heated handgrips and even a tyre pressure monitoring system. Riders also have the option to get additional features such as adaptive vehicle height control. This will make it easier for shorter riders to get on the bike.

The BMW R 1300 GS will go up against other higher capacity ADVs in the market such as the Triumph Tiger 1200 and the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally. We expect it to come at a price that is around Rs 23 to 24 lakh (ex-showroom), with a potential launch in just a few days time. We also had a chance to ride the BMW R 1300 GS, and we were really surprised by how easy the bike was to handle.
