It’s based on the the R 1300 GS and gets the same 1,300cc boxer twin engine
Gets a bigger fuel tank, an optional automatic transmission, and semi-automatic suspension
Will be launched soon in India
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has been unveiled internationally. The “Adventure” suffix brings a whole lot of new goodies, however, it still retains the same 1300cc boxer twin engine that makes 145PS and 149Nm.
One of the biggest updates on the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is the optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), BMW speak for an automated manual gearbox.
The gearbox has two electromechanical actuators that control the clutch operation and gear shifts. With this option, the bike doesn’t get a clutch lever, just a gear-shifter in case the rider wants more control. This would make it far easier to ride this huge adventure bike.
We are calling it huge because the GS has become bigger in the new guise, especially with an 11-litre increase to the fuel tank which can now accommodate a whopping 30 litres of fuel. That has also increased the kerb weight to 269kg.
Apart from the four standard riding modes, it also gets an optional Enduro mode to make it easier to ride off-road. It also gets semi-automatic suspension as standard, which alters suspension settings depending on the riding mode, riding conditions, rider inputs, and weight on the bike. It gets two auxiliary LED light bars on either side of the tank, adding to its bulky appeal. There’s also a collision warning system and anti-theft alarm on offer in the optional accessories brochure.
The BMW R 1300 GSA with the optional automatic gearbox will be sold internationally at a price tag equivalent to Rs 22.77 lakh. BMW Motorrad India is expected to launch it soon, and should command a bump over R 1250 GSA’s current price tag of Rs 22.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi.) To put things in perspective, the Honda Africa Twin with DCT costs Rs 17.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). We recently rode the new BMW R 1300 GS, and here’s our first ride review.
