The middleweight inline-four screamer of a bike could make a comeback in India in the near future

Kawasaki India has unveiled the 2024 edition of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R at India Bike Week 2023, hinting at a launch sometime early next year. It could come as a CBU from the UK, with an expected ex-showroom price of around Rs 11 to 12 lakh.

The Kawasaki ZX-6R is a middleweight supersport powered by a 636cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine that outputs 124PS at 13,000rpm and 69Nm at 10,800rpm, making it 37PS and 11.5Nm more powerful than its closest rival the Honda CBR650R. And yet, that’s a drop of 6PS and 1Nm over its predecessor. Blame the Euro5/BS6.2 emissions norms for that.

The bike is built on an aluminium perimeter frame and is suspended by a 41mm inverted fork with 120mm wheel travel and a gas-charged monoshock with 151mm wheel travel, both preload adjustable, giving the ZX-6R a ground clearance of 130mm.

Braking duties are handled by dual 310mm discs at front with 4-piston radial callipers and a 270mm disc at the rear with a single-piston calliper. The bike rolls on 120-section front and 180-section rear tyres, wrapped around a 17-inch alloy. It comes with a kerb weight of 198kg and a tank capacity of 17 litres. Seat height stands at 830mm and might not be the most accessible to short riders.

The bike features a 4.3 inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, traction control, quick shifter and 4 riding modes (Street, Sport, Rain and Rider).

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R only has the Honda CBR650R as a rival (of sorts), as both motorcycles are the only middleweight supersport offerings in India featuring an inline-four engine.
