BSA Gold Star is set to launch in August
It will be powered by a 650cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine
Looks like a properly retro bike
Classic Legends is bringing back the iconic British motorcycle brand, BSA Motorcycles, to India. While Classic Legends hasn’t mentioned the brand or the motorcycle, the media invite depicts a single-cylinder engine with an outline that matches the design of the BSA Gold Star’s engine. Also, the triple rifle motif on the invite is the same as BSA’s logo from 1929. The BSA Gold Star is designed in the UK but is made in India.
The brand was revived in 2021 when Classic Legends launched the BSA Gold Star internationally. Since then the retro bike has been spotted testing quite a few times, up until August 2023. There has been no news since then about the India launch, until now.
The Gold Star 650 is powered by a 650cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 45.6PS and 55Nm.
The engine has been made to look like an air-cooled unit to preserve the retro aesthetics of the bike. It comes paired to a five-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. Since this is a big single-cylinder engine, its refinement level will differ from the twin-cylinder Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which is its biggest rival. That said, it will definitely offer a unique riding experience.
The Gold Star 650 gets a 41mm telescopic fork with covers, and 5-step preload adjustable twin-shocks. Braking is handled by a 320mm front disc and a 255mm rear disc, with Brembo calipers and dual-channel ABS. It comes with spoke wheels - 18-inch front, 17-inch rear – shod with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres. However there are chances these could be replaced with something more affordable in India. It has a 780mm seat height and a 12-litre fuel tank. All of which give it a 213kg kerb weight.
The Gold Star 650 has a pretty basic feature set including a circular halogen headlight, a twin-pod instrument cluster with digital insets, a handlebar-mounted USB port, and an engine immobiliser.
BSA Gold Star 650 is set to launch on August 15, 2024.
That is quite ironic considering the British brand is returning to India on the same date as when the British left. Jokes apart, the Gold Star 650 could be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which would be about Rs 20,000 more than the top variant of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. This is most likely since BSA will be positioned as a premium brand as compared to Jawa-Yezdi.
