Royal Enfield has added a scrambler to its 650cc lineup as the Bear 650 has been launched at EICMA 2024. It combines cool, retro scrambler aesthetics with the power of a 650cc twin cylinder engine.
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 has been priced at Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). It is available in five colour options: Boardwalk White, Petrol Green, Wild Honey, Golden Shadow and Two Four Nine. The bike’s name is a tribute to Eddie Mulder’s championship winning run in the 1960 Big Bear Run desert race. Here are the colour-wise prices:
Colour |
Price (ex-showroom Chennai) |
Boardwalk White |
Rs 3.39 Lakh |
Petrol Green |
Rs 3.44 Lakh |
Wild Honey |
Rs 3.44 Lakh |
Golden Shadow |
Rs 3.51 Lakh |
Two Four Nine |
Rs 3.59 Lakh |
Bookings of the Bear 650 will begin on November 10, 2024. Its main rival is the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 6 ½.
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is based on the Interceptor 650 and there are various changes to make the scrambler distinguishable from the roadster. The middle section with the round racing number plate (like the scramblers of the 60s and 70s), completely redesigned sleeker-looking tail section, flatter single-piece seat, more upswept dual exhausts with the blacked-out heat shields and a wider handlebar are some of them. The biggest striking difference is the inverted fork on the Bear 650 instead of the telescopic fork on the Interceptor 650. The rest of the bike with the round LED headlight, retro-style mirrors and the teardrop-shaped fuel tank have remained unchanged.
The graphics on the five colour options match the retro styling of the bike very well and give off cool Swinging Sixties era vibes. Here are the highlights of the bike:
- 648cc, inline twin-cylinder engine producing 47.4PS at 7,150rpm and 56.5Nm at 5,150rpm
- 6-speed gearbox
- 43mm inverted fork with 130mm wheel travel
- Twin shock absorbers with 115mm wheel travel
- 320mm front disc brake and a 270mm rear disc brake setup
- Switchable dual-channel ABS available as standard
- 100/90-17 front and 140/80-17 rear tyre setup
- Wheelbase: 1,460mm; Ground clearance: 184mm
- Kerb Weight: 216kg
- Fuel tank capacity: 13.7 litres
- All-LED lighting
- 4-inch round TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, music controls and Google Maps navigation
- USB 2.0 charging port and a 5V, 2A output
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is another addition to the manufacturer’s 650cc lineup. It is a rather unique addition, though because apart from the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 6 ½, the Bear is the only other sub-650cc scrambler in the Indian two-wheeler market. This should help Royal Enfield corner that particular section of the market as well. But the kerb weight of 216kg seems too heavy for a scrambler that’s meant to have fun on off-road sections.
