The BSA Gold Star was recently launched in India, and this retro roadster goes up against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. In this article, we will be comparing the specifications of both the bikes.
If you are someone who is looking to buy a new retro roadster then this comparison will give you a better perspective on what each of them has to offer.

In terms of performance, the single-cylinder engine on the BSA Gold Star is able to offer 2.7Nm more torque, whereas the parallel-twin engine on the Royal Enfield offers 2PS more power. When it comes to the real world these figures will likely translate into the BSA Gold Star offering a slightly more torquey riding experience with the iconic thump that we have come to associate with big singles.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor on the other hand will offer a riding experience that is a bit more smooth, with the torque coming in a bit late as with most parallel twin engines. Overall, although the power figures are roughly similar, the riding experience will be quite different thanks to the different engine types used.

When it comes to underpinnings, both bikes are roughly similar, but the BSA has a slight edge here thanks to its larger rear brake. When it comes to the tyres, the BSA has a larger rear tyre setup, which in theory should translate into better traction and stability at high speeds. The Interceptor’s smaller section rear tyre on the other hand, would likely translate into better acceleration.
The main difference between the two in this section is the seat height and the kerb weight. The BSA Gold Star has one advantage, which is the lower seat height that would make the bike more accessible to shorter riders. The Interceptor 650 on the other hand is much lighter than the BSA Gold Star and would come off as more agile and manoeuvrable while riding. The Interceptor will likely feel a bit easier to move around the parking lot as well.
Lastly, coming to the fuel tank capacities, the Interceptor on paper has the slight edge as it gets a larger tank than the Gold Star.
When talking about features, both the bikes come with a dual pod instrument console, with a speedometer and tachometer and digital insets that display information such as fuel level, time, trip and odometer readouts.
Both bikes offer a similar set of features, but the BSA Gold Star manages to stand out with its anti-theft engine immobiliser that adds an additional level of safety to the bike.

When looking at the price, it is clear that both the bikes are priced around the same range, with the BSA Gold Star starting at Rs 2,99,990 and going all the way up to Rs 3,34,990. The Interceptor starts at Rs 3,03,000 and goes all the way up to Rs 3,31,000. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.
So which bike you should go for depends on what you’re expecting. If you are looking for a big single that can offer a riding experience that is smooth and kind of unique, with the iconic thump then the BSA Gold Star makes more sense. The additional features it has to offer such as the anti-theft engine immobiliser make it an even more sweet deal.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 on the other hand is for those who want something that is able to offer reliable performance and would also come with lower cost of ownership thanks to the widespread service network and availability of parts. BSA is just starting out, so we will have to wait and see how well they are able to tackle the after sales service side of things.
