Mahindra has introduced a special edition in the Thar’s lineup, known as the Thar Earth Edition. The special edition of the Thar is based on the top-end LX hardtop variant and gets a new color known as ‘Desert Fury’. The Earth Edition is available only in 4x4 and doesn't get the RWD option which is available in some of the other variants. Let's take a closer look at it in our image gallery.
The new Desert Fury shade, which is basically satin matte beige hue can also be seen on the front grille of the special edition. Keen eyed viewers will also notice that the Mahindra logo has been blacked out.
On the side profile, we can notice that the ‘Thar’ branding on the ORVM and alloys are finished in this new body colour as well.

To further enhance the design, the logos and ‘4X4’ badging have been blacked out, while you get body decals as well. An ‘Earth Edition’ badge has been provided on the B-pillar as well to denote which variant you’re driving.
Coming to the rear end, there isn't much of a change from the regular Thar, but we do get to see the body colored ‘Thar’ branding on the spare tyre.
The interior of the Thar Earth Edition gets a big change as it boasts black and beige leatherette seat upholstery, making it stand out from the regular all-black fabric upholstery. It also features the desert fury body-colored inserts on the AC-vents and the steering wheel.
The seats of the special edition are also finished in the ‘Desert Fury’ hue. Furthermore, the special variant of the off-roader gets sand dunes-inspired embossing on the seat headrests.
Lastly, the Thar Earth Edition comes with extras including front and rear armrests, 7D floor mats, and a comfort kit that contains seat cushions for extra comfort. These add-ons may also be added to the standard Thar, but in a different color.
The Thar Earth Edition is only available in a fixed hardtop body, as it is based on the top-end LX hardtop variant, if you are looking for a convertible soft top, you'll have to consider the standard variants of the Thar. The Earth Edition also doesn't get the RWD option and will only be available in the 4x4 specification.
The special edition is offered with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150PS of power and a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine, whereas the regular Thar also offers the 1.5-litre diesel engine which is offered in RWD only.
The Earth edition of the Thar is priced from Rs 15.40 lakh (ex-showroom), a premium of Rs 40,000 over the respective LX variants. It locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha 3-door.
