Skoda’s upcoming sub-4 metre SUV spied being tested.
Gets styling cues like a split headlamp setup and Skoda’s butterfly grille.
Likely to get a 1-litre TSI engine paired to a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic.
Will be feature loaded to take on its rivals in the segment.
Skoda is all set to enter the sub-4 metre SUV segment, which in recent times has become the one of the most popular choices for the SUV savvy Indian audience. The forthcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV has been spied testing plenty many times, but the spy shots this time give us a clear perspective of its size and styling. Let's take a closer look at the spied images and try to decipher as much as we can.
Starting up front, the upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV’s styling, featuring the signature butterfly grille, is in line with the brand’s design language. The smaller SUV gets a split headlamp setup with DRLs (which double up as indicators) placed above the main headlamp cluster.
The overall profile gets a hunkered up stance with high shoulder and bonnet line, with the roof rails adding up to the look of the vehicle. The test-mule spotted here was seen with black steel rims and wheel covers, suggesting it to be a mid-spec variant. However, top-end variants are expected to sport dual-tone alloy wheels.
Even though the test mule spotted here was under heavy camouflage, the rear-end of the Skoda sub-4 metre SUV gives us hints of it sharing design elements with the Kushaq. As seen in the image, it gets an LED tail light with halogen bulbs for turn indicators and reversing light. Again, this is likely to be the mid-spec variant as it misses out on rear wiper and washer, which could be a part of the top-end variants.
Unfortunately, the interiors of the upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV could not be spotted, but it is most likely to be feature loaded up to the brim, to give a tough competition to its segment rivals.
It is highly anticipated to borrow the 8-inch (mid-spec) and 10-inch (top-spec) floating touchscreen infotainment system (with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity), digital driver’s display, a single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control unit, ventilated front seats, an air-purifier, keyless entry, push-button start/stop and a powered driver’s seat.
Safety should be a top priority for Skoda, with 6-airbags, ABS with EBD and electronic stability control expected to be standard across the lineup. Additional safety features will likely include seat belt reminders for all seats, a 360-degree camera setup with rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Skoda will most likely equip its upcoming sub-4 metre SUV with the 1-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine (115 PS and 178 Nm) found in the Kushaq and Slavia. It will most probably get two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV will be built on a shrunken down version of the MQB-A0 IN platform, on which the Kushaq and Slavia are based.
Upon its launch, the Skoda sub-4 metre SUV will give competition to its segment rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and the Kia Sonet. We anticipate it to be priced between Rs 8 lakh - Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom) with multiple variants to choose from.
