The one-above-base MX2 variant introduces the diesel powertrain to the line-up and the 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO which has been recently launched in India at a starting price of Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), offers nine main trim levels: MX1, MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro AX5, AX5 L,AX7 and AX7 L. The MX2, being the one-above-base model, misses out on many comfort and convenience features, but does not compromise on the safety equipment. Furthermore, this variant marks the entry for a diesel engine option mated to a manual transmission on offer.  Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about the second in the lineup, MX2 variant.

Exterior

The one-above-base MX2 variant misses out LED headlights and fog lamps. Instead, a basic halogen projector headlight setup has been provided. LED DRLs and turn indicators on the ORVMs come as standard from the base MX1 variant. The gloss-black grille and bumpers remain unchanged and are similar across all variants.

From the side, notice the blacked-out A- and C-pillars with body-colour door handles. There are no roof rails on offer, though, and the black 16-inch steel wheels do not get any wheel covers.

At the back, the MX2 variant misses out on rear defogger and wiper with washer. Also note that the central boot element of the connected LED tail lights do not light up. The MX2 variant also misses out on a roof-mounted spoiler but does get the antenna as it gets the 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

Interior

The base MX2 variant of the XUV 3XO gets the similar dual-tone interior treatment as its higher-spec trims but misses out on an automatic climate control unit and instead gets a manually operated AC unit.

The MX2 variant marks the entry of an infotainment screen (10.25-inch unit), steering-mounted audio controls and four speakers, but misses out on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The system also relies on a normal screen, but doesn’t get an HD screen unlike the higher-end variants.

The MX2 variant does not get any sunroof option, but introduces remote keyless entry and follow-me-home headlight feature over the MX1 base variant.

Safety, on the other hand, hasn’t been compromised and is well equipped with safety tech such as ABS, standard six airbags, electronic stability control, all-wheel disc brakes, and rear parking sensors.

The MX2 variant gets fabric seats instead of leather upholstery. Middle-passenger headrest and rear central armrest are a miss but you get rear AC vents for enhanced comfort.

Powertrain

The one-above-base MX2 variant is offered with just one engine and transmission option. It gets a 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit (117 PS and 300 Nm) mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. If you want either of the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines, you’d have to consider a different variant.

Mahindra XUV 3XO MX1

The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 variant is available at Rs 9.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It competes with other sub-4 metre SUVs such as the Renault Kiger, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Nissan Magnite, along with the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV.
