The Ducati Monster SP gets better suspension, tyres and weighs less than the standard

Ducati has unveiled the Monster SP globally. While the streetfighter had undergone a full-fledged transformation last year, the SP version now takes its sense of lightness, rigidity and track-focused nature up a notch.

What stands out the moment you see the new Monster is the MotoGP-inspired livery. The bright red paint combined by the gold-finished inverted fork make this already gorgeous-looking bike look breathtaking.

At its heart is still the 937cc V-twin Testastretta 11 motor that makes 111PS and 93Nm, but the bike now weighs 2kg less than the standard variant, which tips the scales at 166kg (dry). One of the main contributors to that is the fact that the bike now uses a lighter lithium-ion battery. Changes in the underpinnings include fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension at both ends and grippier Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres. Braking duties have now been handed to Brembo Stylema Callipers picked up straight from the Ducati Panigale V4.

Ducati has calibrated the electronics too, to complement the bike’s sporty nature and has also introduced a new riding mode: Wet, to complement the pre-existing Sport, Touring and Urban modes. Other changes include sharper steering geometry for better agility and a pair of Termignoni exhausts.

The Monster SP could command a substantial premium over the standard one. For perspective, the standard Monster costs Rs 12,49,000 for the Ducati Red paint scheme. The bike should be here in India sometime in early 2023. It’ll be interesting to see how well the Monster SP would do against the likes of the Triumph Street Triple RS and the Kawasaki Z900.   A second round of fight between the Street Triple RS and the Monster in 2023? Maybe! Stay tuned to ZIgWheels for it.
