The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno is shaping up to be a safer hatchback than its predecessor. We’ve got our hands on a leaked document that tells us the Baleno will get side and curtain airbags, hill hold assist, ESP and a 360-degree camera. Bookings for the premium hatchback are already underway, and we expect the official prices to be announced in the coming days.
We can now confirm that the Maruti Baleno will offer six airbags – a feature that no other existing Maruti cars provide. The official teaser gives us a peek at the Baleno’s new 360-degree-view camera, another first for Maruti. It uses feed from multiple cameras around the car to give you a real-time view of the car’s surroundings. It can help you “see” around blind spots to help you manoeuvre and park in tight spaces without clipping your bumpers.
Maruti has already teased its premium hatchback’s new head-up display – another segment-first feature. Other than these features, the leaked document shows it’ll get rear AC vents, a head-up display, rear USB A and C ports, and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Many of these features are likely to be offered in higher-spec variants at launch, and we’ll have to wait to find out which of them are part of the standard equipment list.
The leaked document also gives us an insight about the fuel efficiency figures from the Baleno’s 90PS 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine, which doesn't have mild-hybrid tech this time around. Also, the hatch will get an AMT instead of a CVT. How does that affect fuel efficiency? We answer that in detail in this story.
