The updated Jeep Compass Trailhawk is set to be introduced in the coming days. Ahead of its launch, you can check out the off-road-focused SUV at a Jeep dealership and unofficially reserve one for a token of Rs 50,000.

We got our hands on exclusive information about the upcoming SUV, and here’s all you need to know:

What Is The Compass Trailhawk?

The Trailhawk is the Compass’ off-road- and flagship trim. Any Jeep bearing the ‘Trailhawk’ badge will have rugged design touches aplenty, and the same goes with the Compass SUV. There is generous use of body cladding all around for a beefier stance, and the ride height has been increased for a ground clearance of 205mm.

Fun Fact: The Trailhawk’s hood has a black sticker, which helps prevent sun glare for the driver.

At 17 inches, the alloy rims are a size smaller, but the tyres are chunkier, and that  should come in handy when negotiating rough terrains. And last but not least, the revised front and rear bumpers are not mere cosmetic additions, but also provide better approach and departure angles.

Off-road-Specific Features

These include hill start assist, hill descent control, and terrain modes (Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, Rock). The low 20:1 crawl ratio – when you activate 4LOW – allows it to crawl over steep inclines or obstacles without any throttle input.

On that note, the Compass Trailhawk will also get Brake Accelerator Interlock, a feature that enables you to disable the throttle by pressing the brakes. How does this help? We’ll be answering that in our first drive review.

The facelifted Compass Trailhawk will be offered in five colours: Exotica Red, Bright White, Magnesio Grey, Techno Green, and Brilliant Black.

Fun Fact: An easy way to identify the Compass Trailhawk is to look out for the ‘Trail Rated’ and ‘Trailhawk’ badges and the iconic red tow hook at the rear.

What Powers It?

The facelifted Compass Trailhawk will get the familiar 170PS 2-litre diesel engine, paired with a 9-speed automatic and all-wheel drivetrain. Nope, the Trailhawk won’t get a petrol mill in India.

Interior

The pre-facelift Compass Trailhawk’s cabin bore telltale signs that you’re in a Trailhawk, but in the new one, you might need a probing eye. The red highlights are now limited to just the stitching and the ‘Trailhawk’ badge on the seats, and the centre trim on the dashboard gets a carbon fibre-like element. Good for you if you like your car less flashy.

Features Onboard

The Compass Trailhawk will get all the niceties as the current top-spec trim, including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, an Alpine sound system, and a powered driver’s seat.

Passenger safety will be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and tyre pressure monitoring.

Expected Price And Rivals

A little birdie tells us that the Compass Trailhawk is expected to be priced at around Rs 1 lakh more than the top-spec diesel trim, which costs Rs 29.34 lakh (ex-showroom). This pits it against the VW Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross, and the Skoda Kodiaq
