The Peugeot Django 125 retro scooter has been spotted testing in India
It might be launched in India, with localized manufacturing
It will go up against the Vespa SLX 125
The Peugeot Django 125 has been spotted testing in India and we have exclusive photos of the scooter. The photos have given us a decent idea of what to expect from this upcoming retro scooter. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Django 125 has a retro design and styling, reminiscent of scooters from the 1960s. It has a round headlight, and sleek-looking apron mounted turn-indicators. What really makes the scooter stand out is the metal grill-like detailing on the apron, with the metallic Peugeot logo.
Other than this, the scooter has sculpted body panels along with a neatly integrated tail-light section. Overall, Django 125 manages to impress quite a bit with its looks.
The Django 125 will be powered by a 125cc air-cooled, single-cylinder motor which outputs 10.6PS and 8.5Nm. The scooter features a suspension setup that comprises a telescopic fork and a monoshock. It features 12-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Braking setup consists of a 200mm front and 190mm rear disc.
The Django 125 is a good looking scooter that manages to stand out thanks to its authentic retro design and styling. Peugeot has been testing the scooter along with a few other of its offerings for a while now in India. But so far, there’s no indication that the brand is planning on making its India debut anytime soon.
However, judging from the MH-14 numberplate on the test scooter, it is most-likely developed at Mahindra’s two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Chakan, outside of Pune. Back in 2022, Mahindra and Mahindra, in partnership with Muteres SE & Co, had acquired an equity stake in Peugeot. Mahindra, in this partnership, would be helping Peugeot with new product launches.
So it is natural that Peugeot 2-wheelers will be manufactured at Mahindra’s plant in Chakan. If Peugeot is planning on entering the Indian market with a competitive price, it would be prudent for the French brand to locally manufacture its scooters in India – which is where the Mahindra’s facility will come into the picture again.
We really hope the scooter comes to India, as it would be a really good retro-alternative to the Vespa SLX 125 and the Aprilia SR 125 . The scooter could be launched at an ex-showroom price that is somewhere around the Rs 1.45 lakh mark. It could be launched in India sometime in 2026.
