The interior of the facelifted Tata Safari seems to draw heavily from the Curvv concept

  • Facelifted Tata Safari’s cabin spied undisguised.

  • New images reveal a Curvv-inspired 4-spoke steering and heavily revised central tunnel.

  • Infotainment system looks taller and gets revised AC vents and HVAC controls beneath.

  • Tata could debut the 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol engine with the facelifted Safari.

  • Launch is expected in 2024.

We’ve had a peep inside the cabin of the facelifted Tata Safari on a previous instance, but these new undisguised spy shots give us the best look at the revisions yet, and they look plenty. So without any delay, let’s take a deep dive into the changes of the upcoming Safari’s interior.

The biggest and most apparent change from these images is the new 4-spoke steering wheel, which sports a display-like panel from the Curvv concept in between the mounted controls on either side. Although not active, we reckon this display will relay a host of driving or trip data or it might display the illuminated Tata logo.

The next visible change is the heavily revised layout for the central console and tunnel, which gets a taller and more premium looking touchscreen system (likely bigger than 10.25-inches). The central AC vents have also been redesigned and the new touch-based climate control knobs take inspiration from the Curvv concept.

The tunnel separating the driver and passenger sports a Land Rover-like gear knob and a revised premium-looking rotary dial  with a display a la the Nexon EV Max. This is used for the toggling between the various driving modes – just like the current Safari does. And in keeping things familiar, it also retains the central grab handles.

There also seems to be a new glossy hue for the dashboard panel, but we’ll reserve commenting on it, given that the image quality isn’t the best to dissect those deets. But it does seem that the carmaker wants to make the cabin a posher experience to spend time as we can see soft touch materials in the lower half of the dash.

Of course, there are going to be tweaks made to the styling of the Safari, with vertically stacked LED headlights at the front and connected LED tail lamps spanning the width of the rear. It’ll also get new 19-inch alloy wheels. Head to our exterior spy shot story to know more about the styling revisions.

Visual changes apart, the facelifted Safari is bound to get additional features, some of which could include a more aggressive ambient lighting setup with more colour options and a revised ADAS suite with lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Tata could also make six airbags as a standard fitment.

The 170PS 2-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission will continue to power the Safari, but Tata’s new 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine could also be offered as an option. This engine debuted at the Auto Expo 2023 and could be paired to a DCT as hinted by the presence of paddle shifters in a previous spy shot.

With all the styling do-overs and feature additions, the Tata Safari is likely to get dearer than the outgoing model which is priced from Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted SUV will renew its rivalry with the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar.
