Until now, the Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs had got constant updates and variants as per customer feedback and competition. But there’s still one important element missing in the SUV since its launch: petrol power. Tata will soon address that as the Indian marque will plonk in its brand new 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol engine.
Tata’s new 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol engine develops 170PS and 280Nm. While the power figure is right up there with the 2-litre diesel, torque is 70Nm lesser as compared to the oil burner’s 350Nm. The carmaker will likely be pairing this engine with a DCT, meaning both models could get an automatic option as well.

We expect Tata to offer the new petrol engine while it’s rolling out the facelifted SUV. When it comes to design changes, the all-electric Harrier displayed at the expo previews what you can expect from the facelift in terms of styling.
Introduction of petrol power in the Harrier and Safari means you can expect a slight drop in entry-level pricing, which starts at Rs 14.8 lakh and Rs 15.45 lakh, respectively. The Harrier locks horns with the MG Hector and Mahindra XUV700 five-seater, while the Safari rivals the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700 seven-seater.
