Hope can be a real bummer, irrespective of the context. Admittedly, it has been one ever since Ford filed the design trademark for the new-gen Endeavour in India. That trademark filing reignited the hope for a Ford comeback in India, which was taken even higher after the Ford Endeavour SUV (or ‘Everest’ as it’s internationally known) and Ranger pickup truck were spotted undisguised very recently. Yet, there is no official statement from Ford for any sort of return to India.
But hope is a strong emotion and we at Zigwheels believe manifestation can work wonders. So in keeping the spirit alive, here’s how we think Ford could bring back the new-gen Endeavour and Ranger pickup truck to India, that too without a hefty price tag, at least in the initial phase.
Given the current situation, there won’t be any local manufacturing or even assembling for Ford, as their plant isn’t in running condition. They will have to bring in fully imported units, which usually means humongous price tags thanks to our beloved tax structure.
But there is hope, thanks to an amendment which allows carmakers to import up to 2500 units per year without any homologation. That means Ford could actually bring the Endeavour and Ranger to India, though in limited numbers, and price them in a not-so-absurd ballpark.

If that happens, the Endeavour could retail for about the same as the Toyota Fortuner, which goes up to Rs 51.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Considering the craze and the lamenting woes from Ford stans on all social media platforms, we reckon those units, if launched, will be picked up by customers rather swiftly. What remains to be seen is what Ford will do after the 2500 quota is done.

So, bummer or not, the hope for a Ford comeback is very much alive. But the question is whether Ford will “endeavour” to return some love to the Indian market or not. The existence of this loophole in taxation should ideally nudge them to bring at least those few units to India, and quench the thirst of a few lucky people. But the times we are living in are anything but ideal. So we hope the head honchos at Ford are reading this, and may make the world, in this limited context, a little more idealistic.
