MG has been a real tease with the launch of the Comet EV. It has been a long campaign that began with spy shots, teasers, an official debut followed by a part-price reveal. But the extended launch campaign has finally come to a conclusion as the full price list of the Comet EV is finally here. The Comet EV’s prices start from Rs 7.98 lakh for the base-spec model and go all the way up to Rs 9.98 lakh for the top-end trim.
While the Comet EV’s bookings will commence from May 15 at 12pm, its deliveries will start from May 22 in a phased manner.
Variant |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Tata Tiago EV Price (ex-showroom) |
Pace |
Rs 7.98 lakh |
Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 9.29 lakh (19.2 kWh battery) |
Play |
Rs 9.28 lakh |
Rs 10.19 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (24 kWh battery) |
Plush |
Rs 9.98 lakh |
These prices for the MG Comet are introductory (first 5,000 bookings only), and will receive a hike in the time to come. The prices of its first two variants are very close to the ballpark of the Tata Tiago EV’s 19.2 kWh battery variants, but the 24kWh battery variants of the Tata are relatively dearer.
We’ve all seen enough images of the MG Comet EV by now and we know that the design is a modern one with boxy edges and quirky styling elements. In the rare possibility where you might have not read about the design in detail, head over here for a comprehensive image-gallery overview.
Unlike the body of the Comet EV, its cabin is rather sophisticated with light colours for the dashboard and seat upholstery and the cleanly laid-out dual 10.25-inch screen integrated onto a single bezel.
The two-spoke steering wheel sports gaming console-like steering mounted controls and you get a lot of free space in the place where there’s usually the central tunnel. In terms of features, there are the aforementioned dual screens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a two-speaker sound system, keyless entry with push button start and power windows. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
MG has equipped the Comet EV with a 17.3kWh battery pack that feeds the rear-mounted 42PS electric motor. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels only and the setup has a claimed range of 230km. The only significant letdown in its powertrain is the unavailability of fast-charging capability, as it can only be recharged via 3.3kW home charger, which takes five hours to juice from 10 to 80 percent.

With a footprint that’s shorter than 3 meters, the MG Comet EV is a smaller urban-oriented alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
