Smallest bikes from the two big brands compared on paper

Harley-Davidson has globally introduced its smallest and most affordable bike yet, the X350. It is co-developed with Qianjiang Motorcycle and is based on the QJ Motor SRK 350. How does it fare against the smallest and most affordable modern Royal Enfield bike, the Hunter 350, on paper? Let’s find out.

Clearly, the Harley-Davidson X350 flaunts the more sophisticated engine with twin cylinders and liquid cooling when compared with the air-cooled thumper that the Hunter 350 has. Not surprisingly, it also makes 16.5PS and 4Nm more than the Royal Enfield, which should result in it providing much better performance.

With 185mm of ground clearance, the H-D X350 should be able to handle bad roads easily. The X350’s longer wheelbase should improve the straight line stability as well. However, the shorter seat height and the lighter kerb weight of the Hunter 350 makes it a really accessible bike for shorter riders.

Features

In terms of features, both bikes have nothing particularly fancy. Both get semi-digital consoles with basic readouts like speed, odo and trip meter. Interestingly, Hunter 350 gets an optional Tripper pod with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. The Harley, on the other hand, gets all-LED lighting.

On paper, the Harley-Davidson X350 makes for a better 350cc motorcycle with its premium hardware and sportier engine, however, it will not be coming to India. Worry not, though, Hero and H-D’s partnership will result in the arrival of a new 350cc bike in India. If you’re looking for a nimble neo-retro motorcycle, the Hunter 350 makes sense. Moreover, along with the motorcycle, Royal Enfield also offers the biking lifestyle with several initiatives. We have reviewed both Retro and Metro variants of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and here’s what we think about it.
