The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift, which first made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show, has finally arrived on our shores. Although the Indian model resembles the one showcased in Japan, it lacks few features present in the one sold in ‘The Land Of Rising Sun.’ In this report, we highlight six aspects that the Indian-spec 2024 Swift misses compared to its Japanese counterpart.
The 2024 Swift launched on our shores is offered with six monotone and three dual-tone hues, including new Luster Blue and Novel Orange hues. However, the Japan-spec model has three additional monotone shades: Cool Yellow Metallic, Caravan Ivory Metallic, and Super Black Pearl, along with a dual-tone shade of Cool Yellow with a black roof, all of which are missing in the Indian model.
One notable convenience feature missing in the India-spec 2024 Swift compared to the Japanese model is heated seats. The Japan-spec model comes with heated front row seats. Although, this is a fair miss, considering that most parts of the country are always hot.
The Japan-spec Swift also includes additional safety kit with ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, driver monitoring system, and high beam assist. Additionally, it features an electronic brake with auto hold, which is not present in the India-spec Swift to keep costs in check.
Maruti is offering the 2024 Swift in India with a new 82 PS 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. In Japan, this petrol unit also comes with the option to configure it with a mild hybrid system for increased fuel efficiency. That said, the Indian Swift boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 24.80 kmpl for the 5-speed manual variant and 25.75 kmpl for the 5-speed automatic transmission variant.
When it comes to transmission choices, both the India-spec 2024 Swift and the Japanese model offer a standard 5-speed manual gearbox. However, Japanese customers have the option to choose a smoother CVT-type automatic transmission, unlike the 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) available in our market.
With the 2024 Swift, Japanese customers also have the option to configure it with an all-wheel drivetrain for the hybrid powertrain variants, whereas the model available in our market is equipped with a front-wheel drivetrain.
Prices for the new-gen Swift in India start from Rs 6.49 lakh and go up to Rs 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, while being a hatchback alternative to the Tata Punch, Renault Triber and Nissan Magnite.
