We are well aware of the growing popularity of EVs among the Indian audience, thanks to better charging infrastructure and their broader usability for longer trips instead of being limited to daily commutes. Indian carmakers, especially the mass-market car brands, aim to capitalise on such factors. So here’s the list of EVs expected to hit Indian roads in 2024.
The Maruti eVX will be Maruti’s first EV for India. Initially, the Grand Vitara-sized EV was expected to launch in 2025, but recent spy shots suggest otherwise. As its test mule has been spotted multiple times, we expect Maruti to launch the eVX sometime in 2024. It will likely get a 60 kWh battery pack with dual motors, offering a range of about 550 km.
Expected Price: Rs 22 lakh
Expected Launch: By Late 2024
Globally, Hyundai has revealed the second-generation Kona Electric, featuring substantial updates over the current India-spec model with a larger size. Tata could launch the EV version of the Punch micro-SUV in early 2024, given that it has been spotted multiple times. It will get minor design changes that preview the facelift for the ICE-powered Punch. Positioned between the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, it will be offered in two variants: Medium Range and Long Range. The latter is expected to have a range of up to 325 km.
Expected Price: Rs 12 lakh
Expected Launch: January 2024
Tata is also expected to launch the EV version of the Curvv, which was earlier unveiled as a concept. This is the first SUV-coupe from the Indian carmaker and was recently spotted with an ADAS module on board.
Expected Price: Rs 20 lakh
Expected Launch: March 2024
The all-electric Tata Harrier EV, which made its official debut at Auto Expo 2023, is expected to be launched on our shores next year. The showcased concept model featured an updated design, similar to what we saw with the facelifted 2023 Harrier. Like other Tata models, it might be offered with multiple battery and motor options.
Expected Price: Rs 30 lakh
Expected Launch: Late 2024
Mahindra’s all-electric variant of the XUV700, called the XUV.e8, is expected to debut at the end of 2024. The Indian carmaker may offer it with a selection of two battery options – 60 kWh and 80 kWh – along with single- or dual-motor (AWD) configurations. While detailed specifications are not yet known, it is expected that the XUV.e8 will have a range of 450 km.
Expected Price: Rs 35 lakh
Expected Launch: End of 2024
Test mules of the facelifted Mahindra XUV400 have also been spotted several times, hinting at a potential launch in 2024. It is expected to feature design updates in line with the facelifted XUV300.
