Skoda Kylaq base-spec variant spotted for the first time
Reveals certain exterior elements and gives a glimpse of the cabin
It misses out on a music system among many more features
Powering the base model will be a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine
It will make its global debut on November 6, 2024, India launch likely in early 2025
Top rivals will include the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO
The Kylaq will mark Skoda’s debut into the subcompact SUV space, and it will be the entry-level Skoda SUV on our shores. While previous teasers have given us some information about the exterior design and other specifications, there was nothing that we were aware of about its interior design and layout. However, in this article, we provide you a glimpse of the base-spec Kylaq’s interior and certain details of its exterior ahead of its expected India launch in early 2025.
Here’s everything that we could decode:
Let’s begin with the exterior first. The entry-level Kylaq’s exterior was heavily camouflaged so not a lot could be seen. What we could see was that the base variant sports 16-inch steel wheels with black covers and a split headlight setup (main beams likely to be halogens). The rear missed out on a wiper and defogger which will be provided as you go higher in the Kylaq’s variant lineup. For other details about its exterior, head over to our story on the same.
Coming to the interior, the Kylaq’s dashboard, even though under heavy camouflage, has a similar layout as the Kushaq. The major indication of this particular test mule being a base variant was the absence of a music system along with steering mounted audio controls. Apart from that we could spot analogue dials which will be accompanied by a multi-information display. The two-spoke steering wheel and the gear level look identical to the one on the Slavia and Kushaq, albeit without any leatherette wrap. The interior of the base variant can be seen in a dark colour theme.
It has been confirmed by Skoda that the Kylaq will be getting 6 airbags as standard, and powered and ventilated front seats. Apart from these amenities, the Kylaq is expected to get features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, 8-inch digital driver’s display, cruise control, keyless entry and push button start-stop.
It has been confirmed that the Kylaq will be offered with a sole 1-litre turbo-petrol engine which makes 115 PS and 178 Nm. This engine will be offered with both, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Skoda Kylaq will likely be priced from Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with subcompact SUVs like the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Hyundai Venue.
