New-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift could launch in the first half of May
New-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire could follow soon after
Will get fresh styling, new cabin and features like a 9-inch infotainment system
Likely to get a new 1.2-litre petrol engine for better efficiency
Prices could be hiked over current model’s Rs 5.99 lakh starting price
The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has been teasing us with test mules ever since its global debut in late 2023. But it seems like our patience will finally pay off, as the new generation of the iconic hatchback nameplate will launch in May. Additionally, we reckon the Swift-based Maruti Dzire subcompact sedan will also follow soon after as well.
We already know what to expect from the new Swift in terms of styling – a similar silhouette with new elements defining the styling. It gets a sharper look than before with revised headlights and new LED DRL signature. New alloy wheels make way in profile, along with conventional door handles below the window line.
The rear takes an angular approach with inverted C-shaped LED signature DRLs and black inserts on the rear bumper. You can check out the differences between the new and old Swift here.
Even the interior is new and takes inspiration from existing models like the Baleno and Fronx. But unlike them, it boasts a sportier gloss black and white theme. However, the India-spec model could get a different cabin theme.
There are new features as well and the list includes a 9-inch infotainment system, electronic parking brake with auto hold, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and even some ADAS features. But these new features are part of the international model’s kit, and it is likely that the India-spec model won’t get features like ADAS to keep costs in check.

Even the powertrain is expected to be new, as the new-gen Swift (globally) now gets a 82PS/112Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. It can be had with either a 5-speed MT or a CVT, while there is also the option of an all-wheel drivetrain with the manual in global markets. The latter is likely to be skipped for India. Here’s a powertrain spec comparison of the new Swift with its immediate rivals.

Considering all the changes, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift could be launched with a starting price north of Rs 5.99 lakh. With this update, it’ll put up a tougher fight against the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Renault Triber and Tata Punch in the Indian market.
