Jimny five-door to debut at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Gets a longer wheelbase to accommodate the extra doors.
A majority of the styling elements are similar to standard Jimny.
Likely to get the same 103PS 1.5-litre K15C engine from the Ertiga.
Won’t be called the Gypsy in India.
Prices likely to start around the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
It's been a long saga of leaked images of the Maruti Jimny five-door with spy shots also surfacing online on multiple occasions. But this time around and for the first time, the new variant of the Jimny has been spotted without any drapes on for the first time, giving us the first view of the Jimny ahead of its debut that’s likely to take place at the 2023 Auto Expo.

The papped image shows the rear three-quarter view of the SUV, which highlights the increase in size, thanks to the stretched wheelbase. The front section of the SUV, up until the first door is the same as before. It has been stretched from thereon and the rear door looks smaller than the front doors.
The snapped model was sporting the same Fluro Yellow hue that we’ve come to be familiar with on the standard three-door model, although the roof is body-coloured instead of being black as seen in the three-door SUV. It sports the same alloys as the standard model.
Other styling elements are more or less the same with the similar squared-off chunky wheel arches and the boxy bodyshell. The tailgate can be seen with a Jimny emblem, which suggests that the India-spec model will continue to be called the Jimny and not Gypsy. It will strictly be a five-seater and not a seven-seater.
A clear look inside the five-door Jimny’s cabin is still due, but previous spy shots gave us a dekko at the cabin, which is likely to get a larger nine-inch Smartplay Pro+ infotainment system in place of a seven-inch unit. It will pack other creature comforts as well, such as automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control and analogue dials with a multi-info display. Multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and a 360-degree camera should make up its safety suite.
Maruti could deploy the same 103PS 1.5-litre K15C engine found in the new Ertiga and Grand Vitara in the upcoming five-door Jimny. Transmission duties are likely to be carried out by a five-speed manual ‘box and the new six-speed automatic. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4x4 system will also be offered for the car’s off-roading prowess and the SUV has been spotted plenty of times in the Himalayas. Maruti’s peppy 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol could also be offered as an optional powertrain.

The five-door Jimny will officiate the SUV’s journey in India after its expected debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. Maruti could price it in the ballpark of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and it’ll go neck-to-neck with the upcoming Force Gurkha five-door and Mahindra Thar five-door.
