New dashboard layout, with updated steering wheel and centre console.
Expected new features include 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, fully digital driver’s display and LED headlights.
Safety tech to include 6 airbags, ESC, and ADAS features amongst others.
Likely to offer new 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol along with 2-litre diesel engine.
Tata Motors has revealed the official teaser for the upcoming 2023 Safari facelift. The short video reveals the front of the car along with the bookings opening date of October 6, 2023. This will be the first design refresh for this iteration of the Safari, which has been on sale since February 2021.
The teaser reveals the updated front end with a full-width lightbar, a new grille similar to the Curvv concept displayed at Auto Expo 2023 and a new bronze exterior colour. It will also come with vertical headlight clusters featuring LED lighting. In profile, the new alloys are expected to be the only change, while the rear gets new connected LED tail lamps and probably a revised bumper.
While the interiors have not been shown, earlier spy shots indicate a revised dashboard with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen unit and the new steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo. The Safari will also get the touch-based climate controls, digital driver’s display and Land Rover-like gear lever (for automatic variants) from the Nexon.
In terms of features, the Safari should carry forward its wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, JBL sound system, wireless phone charging pad, ventilated seats for front and rear occupants, large panoramic sunroof, and electrically adjustable front seats from the current model.
Safety features on the new Safari should include six airbags, ABS with EBD, radar-based ADAS tech, and a 360-degree camera.
Tata Motors might offer a new 1.5-litre petrol engine to cater to the customers who prefer a petrol powertrain. This turbo-petrol motor is expected to develop 170 PS and 280 Nm, and is expected to be paired with both automatic and manual transmissions. Meanwhile, the 170PS diesel engine will be continued from before, teamed with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.
All these updates will ensure that the Tata Safari maintains a healthy competition in the market with the likes of Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, and Hyundai Alcazar. We suspect its prices will get a slight increase over that of the current model, which starts from Rs 15.84 lakh (ex-showroom).
