Hero MotoCorp has been caught testing its new 125cc scooter in India for the very first time, although it was heavily camouflaged. The upcoming scooter will be Hero’s entry into the widely popular premium sporty scooter segment and it will rival the TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Avenis, Yamaha RayZR 125 and Honda Grazia.
Despite the heavy black and white camouflage on the test mule, the scooter’s body design was fairly visible. Similar to the NTorq 125 and Avenis, the upcoming Hero scooter gets a slim and sharp body design. It gets faux air vents at the sides, while up front, it gets a big and muscular fascia, with the headlight unit, likely an LED one, mounted over.
The scooter gets a single-piece wide and long seat which appears to be roomy. At the rear, the 125cc two-wheeler features an ‘X’ shaped taillight. Under the camouflage, the test mule sported a light blue colour scheme with contrasting grey colour on some body panels. It also gets a new sporty looking exhaust end can.
Moving on to the powertrain, the scooter will likely be powered by the same 124.6cc engine as the Hero Maestro Edge 125 and Destini 125. The motor produces 9.1PS and 10.4Nm, on the Maestro and Destini. Hero is unlikely to increase the power and torque figures and is likely to go the Suzuki way wherein one 125cc engine powers the Access, Burgman Street and Avenis.
In terms of underpinnings, the sporty scooter features a telescopic fork and offset monoshock suspension setup. Braking is done via disc up front and a drum brake at the rear, and the scooter rolls on alloy wheels. Hero is likely to borrow the suspension and braking hardware from the other 125cc scooters to keep production costs in check.
The test mule flaunts a fully digital instrument cluster that likely comes packed with Bluetooth connectivity, similar to the Xtec variants of Hero’s other two-wheelers.
The test mule looked production-ready, so expect the upcoming Hero sporty scooter to debut this festive season with a price tag of Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
